Antique 1910's ERMA Ernst Mandewirth Steel Fishing Ruler Balisong Butterfly Knife Made In Germany

Made by Ernst Mandewirth was one of the great razor makers that was established in Solingen in the early 1900's.

Solingen: Solingerstrasse 48 in 1908-10
Katternbergerstrasse 174 in 1922-39, and Felderstrasse 68 in 1963.

Brand names: 'E.M.S.', 'Erma' (1919), 'Lesal' (1909), 'Perplex' (1909), 'Rizal' (1904).

High Carbon Steel Blade

Tang Stamped "PATENT" on the front

The Handle is marked "MADRID"

Perhaps the handles were made in Spain.

This model is the same as the Bontgen & Sabins (Bonsa-Werk) balisongs of the time, same design and same style but does not have the German Company marks as does the later models.

Bonsa was a German Company and they did produce a fishing ruler tape measuring model much similar to this one, but by dating things by tang stamps this seems to be an earlier model.

Seeing that Bonsa got a British Patent it is logical that other Solingen knife makers also made models paying royalties to Bonsa

Solid Steel Handle with Solid Brass Latch.

This knife was not a cheaply made knife in its day, it has such a good quality that you can still see it today

This Knife Is In Excellent Condition For Being As Old As It Is.

That makes this knife an oldie/19c original and historically significant.
